Work less. Play more. Spend more. That’s not how China managed to surpass Japan and become the world’s second-largest economy in just one generation of fast growth. It’s more like: nose to the grindstone, long hours, cheap wages, save and invest everything.
So it may come as a surprise that China’s trying to emulate European-style vacations. At least, that’s what it sounds like. A recent memo from the powerful State Council, the highest level of government, urged Chinese companies to send their workers home at noon on Fridays, thereby introducing the four-and-a-half-day work week

Just as we are demanding more work for less pay! This is enormously significant. While our morale sinks further, theirs rises. And it is equally important that corrupt profiteers and politicians are being dealt with more severely there. I believe there was actually an execution a year or two back.
Feeling superior to China and shipping them our industries is a terribly dangerous path.

You people sure don't keep up with world news. China is suffocating, they are scaling back factory output trying to save their own lives. The air pollution is killing them, it has even reached California with it's yellow dust.

I just always wanted to live somewhere where they have siestas.
The thought of several hours everyday to eat lunch, take a walk, and a nice nap would do more for me. If only there was a "Pro Siesta" candidate to vote for.

I think China is doing what other developed countries have been doing all the time. What is so fuzz about this? Leave China alone and take care the mess Americans are facing domestically.

I guess one reason for the proposal is that ordinary people can not find government officials in Friday afternoon, so to spare their efforts and save their time.

I think China needs this policy now more than ever. They need a consumer based economy. The only question is, which country will the world exploit next?

So CHina gets criticized either way?
If they ask their citizens to work hard, it's bad!
If they ask their citizens to take time off, that's bad too?
The Western media is laughable!!!

THIS IS AN OLD NEWS!
2/3 of US workforce allowed only 3 days a week to work. It called "PARTIMERS", to limit companies of paying any benefit and overtime.
China is known of copying ideas and Walmart deserve that credit.

China might be a second largest economy in the world and maybe surpass USA at anytime soon. But, in term of Income Per-Capitas, they are still ways and ways behind Japan.

The orientals are very hard working. I just we had more of them here and less of the lazy blacks. Not all blacks, just the lazy ones.

China is collapsing faster than they will admit...the real purpose of the program is to prevent mass unemployment at SOEs.
