TOKYO —A 24-year-old Chinese woman studying at a Japanese language institute in Tokyo has died after being stabbed outside her apartment in Nakano Ward.

/

According to police the woman Ka E was found bleeding from multiple stab wounds to her neck in the corridor outside her second-floor apartment early Thursday morning Fuji TV reported. Her hands also had cuts on them.

The woman was taken to hospital where she died later Thursday.

Police said the victim had been in Japan since April 2015 and lived with a roommate who attended the same language institute. They said the two women had been out for dinner on Wednesday night.

The roommate was quoted by police as saying she went into the apartment first and a few minutes later heard Ka scream and what seemed like someone banging against the door Fuji TV reported. She told police she couldn’t open the door because something or someone was blocking it so she called 110. When police arrived they found the victim barely alive on the corridor floor against her apartment door.

Police said another resident saw the victim arguing in Chinese with a man downstairs just before the time she is believed to have been stabbed.

Is it necessary to mention the nationality of Chinese people every time in the headlines?

I don't think it's specifically a Chinese thing so much as a non-Japanese thing.

For once I agree with you Strangerland. It's almost as if you can hear the collective sigh of relief...

I think it's relevant to mention the nationality here only because both the perpetrator and the victim appear to be Chinese (based on the argument). It suggests that they probably knew eachother and this might be about unrequited love or money rather than a random serial killer who could strike again. People in the neighborhood will sleep better tonight with this information.

The cuts on the hands would be defensive wounds. She fought for her life but her attacker kept stabbing at her until fatal wounds were inflicted. I pray your soul finds repose Ka-chan in heaven you will not be Chinese non-Japanese or suffer from any other earthly label.

Sure it is. Ones better know every details including nationality ( not race) if proven true and legally allowable of those crimes unless the victims or the familiy memebers of the victims want those not be disclosed to know what is going on in the society or what's needed to recover the society or protect and behave themselves.

(legally allowable of those crimes翻译不通顺,谁帮忙看一下)

Just more news that ticks me off. Reality sucks until human society across the world gets it's act together so something like this would be inconceivable. Poor woman.

Regarding the above comments perhaps the headline should be more neutral regarding nationality and then mention within the article that she is Chinese that way it wouldn't seem like the Chinese are being singled out. Am I wrong?

Nope. That would be a better way to do it as far as I'm concerned. I think that's how it is done in the kind of newspapers I read and nationality is mentioned in the headline only if it's crucial to the story. Which is rarely.

According to police the woman Ka E

Her name was Jiang Ge (江歌) or Koh Ka. Translator should know better than to use the Japanese kun reading for a Chinese surname.

StrangerlandNOV. 05 2016 - 09:42PM JST
Her name was Jiang Ge (江歌) or Koh Ka. Translator should know better than to use the Japanese kun reading for a Chinese surname.
They had it as 'E' on the furigana for her name on the news today and they do the same in this article:

Are you sure that's not what she used in Japan? It doesn't seem like it was something that the translator for this article has done rather it's been put out there by someone.

Laptop_WarriorNOV. 05 2016 - 09:56PM JST

Jiang is a common surname. Reading it as "E" strikes me as highly unlikely.

Yes I agree. Asahi online reported her name as Jian Guu -- 中国籍の江歌(ジャングー)さん(24)No consistency when it comes to Chinese names it seems.

So sad yet another violent crime against women involving knives.

Women need to start arming themselves with at least pepper spray.

@Laptop
Yes the name probably should have been transliterated as "Kou Ka" but that has a lot of meanings in Japanese including "toilet" (後架).
Maybe kun-yomi was kinder....

I feel very sorry for the victime young girl coming to Japan hoping to receive a Japanese Language course and she ended up by loosing her life !! I cannot belive such things takes place in Tokyo /or in Japan. The society is so complicated that perhaps they will never find the culprit and the the girl's family in China grieve in the meantime.
