Anyone thinks FB stands a chance against QQ?
QQ? I didn't realize that is the Chinese equivalent of Facebook.....Facebook will fail miserably here. There's no reason that people need it. Except to keep in touch with their old friend Tim who used to teach their 3 year old English
Reported for breaking the rules regarding banned terms! Also I used to teach there 4 years ago back home in KangarooGuo now get the story str8 m8!
I imagine it'll do miserably and if it does happen to succeed it'll be likely be gimped by restrictions and then fail
Maybe I'm being cynical idk.
Against QQ? No.
Against WeChat? Fuuuuuuck no.
But what if Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp came to China? Could that compete in a way a different company like Facebook couldn't?
WeChat has far too strong of a foothold and is designed with Chinese sensibilities in mind. Plus it offers so much more than just a messenger (wallet didi etc.)
i think you missed the point of my comment (that QQ and WeChat are essentially one and the same products of the same company)
I was mostly pointing out that it would be better to use WeChat as an example as opposed to QQ. I'm not sure how common QQ is anymore but I'm sure WeChat is more popular.
Could Facebook (or any Western social media platform) be competitive in China? I think that's highly unlikely given how ubiquitous WeChat is in almost every aspect of someone's life.
“I'm not sure how common QQ is anymore but I'm sure WeChat is more popular.”
Maybe they're better to set their sights lower then!
I wonder if WeChat is more popular in America than Myspace yet
I don't get your point. MySpace?
Do you seriously think that Facebook has a chance in China? Unless Zuckerberg pulls a massive coup and gets WeChat out of the picture it's not going to happen.
Now that's just my opinion but it's not a particularly stupid one. I'm not sure why you have to be so condescending about it.
Facebook's entry into China will depnd entirely on how much yummy user data China is going to get its hands on in the deal. If they deliver the goods on their entire user base then they'll be fine...
They'd have to. New cybersecurity law basically ensures just that.
I regret to tell you that Facebook can not take the place of QQ. Because QQ has become a way of life. Not only can you send files video remote control Internet payment etc. you can even connect games and authorized third parties to log in watch movies listen to music download resources and so on. With almost universal coverage and long-term facilitation as well as localization improvements. Facebook wants to beat QQ very difficult.
Not gonna happen within the next decade
No. QQ already has an established user base here it is used to enter other accounts etc. but no one has login through Facebook here. It will be an epic fail
QQ isn't any competition for Facebook because nobody uses QQ for all that much anymore anyway. At least not in my part of China. There are other apps in China that have a serious lead on Facebook. I expect that if (and that's a very big if) Facebook ever gets permission to operate in China again it will never take over the market.
If [foreign company] comes to China can it beat [Chinese company]?
No. Even if it could it'l be set up to fail.
I wish investors would understand this. The Chinese market? It's for the Chinese. Stop trading the cow for beans just to get into a market that will fuck you take your knowledge then kick you out!
No you cant have 1.4 billion consumers. Not yours.
