South Korean broadcaster MBC News has released footage purportedly capturing a bird strike on a Jeju Air flight shortly before its crash. All the 181 people aboard were believed to have been killed except two rescued, according to the fire authorities.
Bird strikes are not uncommon. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization, there are over 20,000 bird strike incidents globally each year, costing over $10 billion annually. Bird strikes have become one of the most dangerous threats to aviation safety. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization, 90% of bird strikes happen near airports. In general, this is while aircraft are taking off or landing, or flying at lower altitudes where most bird activity occurs.
12月29日，一架正在着陆的飞机在韩国全罗南道的务安国际机场偏离跑道，撞上了围栏外墙，随后客机起火。据参考消息报道，多家韩国媒体发布一段目击者视频，疑似捕捉到客机撞鸟瞬间。事故的原因被初步判断为飞机撞上鸟群导致起落架无法放下。对于飞机这样的庞然大物来说，小小鸟儿为什么会有如此大的杀伤力？
