In a case that has stirred huge online attention, a man in Datong, Shanxi province, was convicted of rape and sentenced to three years in prison for engaging in sexual intercourse with his fiancee, as announced by the Yanggao County People's Court on Monday.
The case had garnered attention online with various claims, including allegations of "marriage fraud," "extortion using rape accusations," and suggestions that the victim had a history of marriage. The court, however, refuted these claims, labeling them as false information.
2023年1月30日，被告人席某某与被害人经当地某婚介所介绍认识，双方约定订婚彩礼18.8万元。5月1日，席某某家为二人举办订婚仪式，当日交付彩礼10万元和7.2克戒指。同时，席某某及其父母书面承诺，结婚一年后在房屋产权证上添加被害人的名字。5月2日下午，在阳高县某小区的房屋内，被告人强行与被害人发生了性关系。被害人于当晚打电话报警。
