委员建议取消英语中小学主科地位，网友炸锅了！Debate rages over proposal to ax English
A national political adviser's proposal that English be dropped as a core subject for Chinese primary and secondary school students has triggered heated discussion among experts and netizens.
According to a online poll by China Youth Daily, more than 110,000 respondents opposed the proposal and said English should be taught early at schools to enable China to compete with other countries. However, around 100,000 people supported the proposal and said it would be better to spend more time learning Chinese language and culture.
“为了学英语，学生和家长耗费了大量的时间和精力。但是随着经济社会发展，英语真的有这么重要吗？”今年两会，全国政协委员、九三学社中央委员许进建议改革义务教育阶段英语的必修课地位。建议提出后，立即引发了网友争论，对此你怎么看呢？
