中国观众都是“字幕狂魔”？ Are Chinese audiences all crazy about subtitles?
In suspenseful movies, subtitles can telegraph important moments; in comedies, they absolutely murder jokes, timing, and delivery. Plus, for whatever reason, even when I don't need them, I find myself always reading along. I can't tune them out. Most people don't want subtitles on the screen as they can be distracting. Some theaters do have closed captioning devices you can ask for, though. I also can't say that I've ever had a problem understanding dialogue.
When I watched movies with my American friends, even they couldn't catch some of the characters' names and had to Google them afterwards. I don't see how that's an enjoyable experience when, during the movie, you can't even hear the names of some important characters because their names are shouted out only once during a super loud action scene.
全世界是只有中文影视剧加字幕吗？加字幕，确实是华语影视剧的一种独特现象。通常来说，国外影视剧很少配字幕，除非是为了照顾听障人士等特殊群体，才会在院线电影特设专场。对许多中国网友而言，字幕是看影视剧时不可缺少的一部分。一名中国网友表示，中国所有院线电影都配有字幕，并不觉得打扰到自己看电影。
