Today I attended the English corner hosted by the GEC for the first time. And the volunteer gave us a topic. It was about Chinese math. At first I was really puzzled by the questions. 1qAnd my teamates weren't intereted in such a topic, either. But now I suddenly come up with some ideas about this topic.

Nowadays the pupils fron the UK are required to recite the Chinese multiplication table. As a matter of fact, the Chinese mathematics not only brings trouble to the foreign students, but also makes most domestic students upset. Is our society really degressing? I thought it over and found the positive aspects from that.

\

Firstly, it reflects the regconition to our Chinese education system of the foreign countries, especially the western countries. Our China carries out the examination-oriented education while lots of developed countries support the quality-oriented education. But recently many countries have found the rationality of our Chinese exam-oriented education system. I think that is a good beginning.

Secondly, although mathenatics is a science college, the Chinese math can demonstrate the Chinese traditional culture especially in abacus calculation and Chinese multiplication table. When elementary students from foreign countries love to learn the Chinese traditional culture, I think we will have closer communication between the Eastern and Western countries.

Last but not least, learning math can make our younger generation on the earth smarter and more concentrated onto their study. Overall, I think this phenomenon shows the progress in our society.

Now I want to make a summary about today's face-to-face chat in English. I think all of us were English lovers and passionate English learners, though some of us, including me, still needs improving in oral English. At the vey beginning, I was too shy to open my mouth. They wanted me to be the host of the talk. But I was not confident enough so I didn't accept this task.

Gradually, I got myself involved into their chatting after they threw away the topic about math. We talked about the places we travelled to and the unforgettable stories during our trip. At last,we played a popular game in which we should discover who was the undercover. I benefited a lot from such a kind of English activities. After my graduation from college, I found a job which hardly had relations to my major---English.

And I have been out of practice at English for years. I think I wil get back my rusty skills soon via such a style of chatting in English. Most importantly, we can build friendship with each other since everyone here is fraternal and easygoing. To make a conclusion of my afterthoughts, I hope that from now on, we can have more fresh topic about jobs and workplace. Have a nice dream!
